Most people often find comfort in keeping their unhealthy habits and fear that they will enjoy life less if they give up on their favorite fatty and sugary foods and make changes to their lifestyle. We believe that everyone can make a few changes to help them be more healthy and these changes won't be difficult to accomplish. While a healthy lifestyle is much more than just diet and physical activity, integrating these little changes in our lifestyle can lead the way to a healthy life. Ready to get started? Here are 8 ways to some few painless steps you can take to live a healthy life.
Picture

Maintain a healthy weight

Maintaining a healthy weight is one of the best things to living a healthy lifestyle. Factors including diet and activity level can contribute to being overweight which may mean that you’re at risk of some chronic diseases such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, stroke, and cancers. To control or maintain a healthy weight requires change and discipline. Here are some ideas to help.

Eat healthy food

Avoid eating food with high calories such as sugary drinks and carbs. Instead, opt for natural food like fruits, vegetables, and proteins. Drinks lots of water and avoid processed and salty foods like pre-packaged meals, chips, cookies and other treats. Also, studies show that drinking a glass of Grapefruit before every meal can help you to eat less to aid in weight loss. Also, supplements such as Resveratrol can aid in hunger restriction.

Get active
A contributing factor to general health is the level of fitness. Get active by doing some home chores, walking to your workplace or moderate aerobic exercise. Get out in the garden and tend to your own plants rather than hiring someone to do it for you and mow your own grass every week to ensure you have a regular routine. You will enjoy the activity and get some regular exercise at the same time. This help increases blood flow and burns excess calories in the body.

Avoiding unhealthy habits
Aside from living and enjoying a happy life, adopting a healthy lifestyle can increase your potential to live longer. Take those sweets on your living room table and put them away or even better - give them away or throw them out. Drink more water regularly and avoid going out in the sun too much. A little sun is good for you but a lot of sun can lead to skin cancer.To achieve the potential benefits of physical activity make sure to follow the following steps;

Avoid excess alcohol consumption and smoking
Alcoholic drinks contain a high-calorie value, which means alcohol is a leading contributor to promoting weight gain. Excess alcohol consumption has been linked to several health risks including liver disease, heart disease, and cancer. It is also detrimental to the eyes, kidney failure and a leading cause of sexual dysfunction.  While smoking is associated with lung cancer, asthma, and cardiovascular disease.

Avoid sleeping late
Studies have shown that those who sleep less tend to weigh more and are prone to depression. Making a habit of staying up late and sleepless nights can wreak havoc on your health. Create a routine that works for you and go to bed earlier. There are teas with Chamomile in it that can aid in helping you to fall asleep.

Exercise in moderation
Working out too long or with too much intensity can increase your risk of fatigue and can cause injury. Make sure to build in some rest periods between your workouts. When you’re tired during exercise, take a break and relax before starting. Start off with 15 minutes if you are on a machine and work your way up until you can spend an hour on a treadmill or elliptical machine. Another really good exercise machine is a rowing machine. These work out multiple muscles and can help you to get in shape. Also, growing a houseplant or a few houseplants will help to purify the air in your home, ease stress and calm the environment.

Ensure a good hygiene
Give your personal hygiene the utmost priority. Ensure you brush and shower regularly even after you’ve performed an activity that has made you sweat. This will help in controlling bad breath, prevent gum disease, cut-down body odor and prevent hygiene-related diseases such as acne and scabies.

5 Healthy Activities for Spring

Spring Healthy Activities
The spring season is here and it's good news for both parents and kids because the sun creates warmer temperatures to give us more opportunities for family-friendly outdoor play. There are literally hundreds of things you can do to keep yourself and your family busy, but narrowing down your options allows for a realistic plan to keeping the family occupied and active.  We believe everything you do this spring should be thought out with healthy activities in mind. Here is a list of five things to create healthy activity during the spring season.

1. Walking
When you start to see those first hints of spring, take a fun stroll to enjoy the beautiful spring morning or evening. A nice long morning walk is a healthy way to start a spring day and to enjoy the weather before going to work. Walking increases your metabolism and energy for the rest of your day. You may even start running with a group to shed some of that winter weight. However, if you are just starting to exercise this spring after a winter of inactivity, start by walking, and you will enjoy it.

2. Cycling
Dust off your bike during spring and take a fun ride through your neighborhood. The trip will relax your mind and strengthen your body. Ride the bike to the grocery store if you just need a few things or if you work in an office all day consider riding your bike to work. Spring riding can inspire a great feeling. Group cycling with the kids can also be fun and biking is a healthy way to challenge yourself to push beyond your personal exercise limits.

3. Spring cleaning
Get some spring cleaning in to freshen up the house that has been closed down for the winter. Clean the house to air it out, toss out old junk and get rid of some of those icky things that affect your allergies; these are all great ways to exercise and begin organizing your home. Clean out the fridge to get rid of those foods which aren’t good for your health. Make a decision if things are to go or stay and give them to Goodwill or some other charity. Be sure to take care of your own house as well and go for a medical check-up to make sure all is going well.

4. Gardening
Spring gardening is lots of fun and is considered exercise. Planting a vegetable garden is productive, healthy and is great exercise. Planting a garden requires a sunny spot in your front or backyard, a few seeds or seedlings and some good gumption. You can also seek advice from the local nursery or home improvement store where you buy these items. You don't have to have a green thumb with the right advice from your local nursery. Spring gardening allows you to exercise as you grow beautiful and healthy plants while having a great time.

5. Outdoor fun and play
The outdoors is always a great way to spend your time during the spring season. The weather is perfect for outdoor activity; not too hot and not too cold. The days are longer, giving you more time outside to absorb some good natural vitamin D for healthy bones. Introduce your kids to the classic activities like hopscotch, flashlight tag, hula hoops and Red Rover. Don’t be surprised if you work up a bit of a healthy sweat with all the running around you’re doing. Alternative outdoor activities can include a  visit to the Zoo where you get lots of walking in or go to the park and enjoy being outside. Whatever your decision get the family out to enjoy the Spring season.

Different skin types and how to take care of them

Skin Care Types
Everyone has different skin types and making the right choices about your skin care products starts with knowing your skin type. This is because your skin type determines the type of skin care products you should put on your body's skin. Different skin types can react dramatically differently to different skin care products. When you use a skin care product that is not suitable for your skin type, it may cause severe damage to your face and body. Allergic reactions or irritations to the skin can occur.
Knowing your skin type will help you to take better care of your skin's health along with slow the aging process and preventing damage that may occur due to wrong choices. Here is some helpful information to help you.

What is your skin type?

The skin is generally classified into four main categories: normal, oily, dry or a combination of all or some of these. The skin's condition is determined by,

•    How much water it contains, which affects its comfort and elasticity
•    How much oil it produces, which affects its softness
•    Its sensitivity, which affects it reaction

However, people's skin type have been known to change as they age. Some other factors such as genetics, diet, unprotected or prolonged sun exposure, and skin care regime also contribute to skin type change. Unsure of what skin type you have? See the description below to find out which scenario best fits you:

Determining Dry Skin Treatment

Dry skin is caused from a lack of natural moisture and does not maintain oil easily. It has little to no visible pores; most times can be flaky, and usually feels tight around the face. When dry, it can become too rough, scaly and often irritated. When exposed to drying factors, dry skin can cause several problems such as sallow tone, wrinkles, aging, and irritation. Some of the factors that may cause or worsen dry skin include weather, such as wind, sun and cold, long, hot shower, and genetic factors.

Dry skin is very sensitive and requires special care. Gentle cleansing, application of rich protective moisturizer and drinking water frequently is very essential to keeping dry skin healthy. These will keep the skin moisturized and hydrated. Taking shorter showers will help and you should also invest in oil-based creams instead of lotions.

Determining Oily Skin Treatment

With oily skin, your face feels moist and looks shiny. It is caused by factors including hereditary conditions, diet, unsuitable cosmetics, and puberty. Oily skin can be problematic; causing a lot of problems such as enlarged pores, pimples, and blackhead breakouts. However, the good news is it is not prone to aging and wrinkling. Washing the face multiple times during the day and applying water based moisturizers can help improve the quality of oily skin. Also, make sure to keep your skin hydrated and use an oil-free sunscreen.

Combination Skin Type Treatments

Combination skin is a blend of both dry and oily skin and can be difficult to take care of. When you have combination skin, your skin may be dry in some areas and oily in others. People with combination skin have shiny skin with visible pores. The T-zone, forehead, nose and chin will be oily while your temples, eye area, and cheeks are dry. People whose skin type changes with the climate fall into this category. The best skin care for combination skin will involve treating each area differently. Oily areas should be frequently and thoroughly cleaned while dry parts should be treated with rich creams and moisturizers.

Normal Skin Treatments

Normal skin is the goal of most skin care regimens and is the easiest to keep healthy and maintain. It has a good balance of moisture, pores and tone. Normal skin types are not too dry, not too oily and has no severe sensitivity to touch or the elements. In order to maintain normal skin, it’s important to minimize its exposure to the sun with sun screen along with using anti aging serums and creams.

8 Healthy Activities before Bed time

5/6/2017

Getting a better nights sleep is something everyone would like to get more of. There are little tricks you can do to help you get a restful nights sleep and improve your overall health at the same time. At bedtime, most people like to watch Netflix or play with the phone before attempting to sleep. However, these activities can affect your sleep cycles, so it's important to incorporate other healthy activities to do before bed that can help us fall asleep more quickly and feel more refreshed in general.
Healthy Sleeping

Stretching before Bedtime can help you sleep better

Taking a few minutes to stretch and flex and your body will assist in winding down before bed. Get to know the parts of your body that hold stress or tension and do specific things to increase flexibility and range of motion in those regions. Stretching your calves and hamstrings every night helps lengthen muscles and tendons and can reduce the frequency and severity of cramps. This will also help to prevent up tightening of the muscles and this is especially important if you have injured your back or any other muscle. Stretching can help you to prevent injuries and this activity fits in perfectly with the next pre-bedtime activity.

Massaging your Partner before bed

Releasing tension and stress is a big factor in helping one get a better night's sleep. This activity doesn't have to be a one hour massage - it can be five minutes which will go a long way to helping yourself get the mind where it needs to be along with the body for a great night's sleep. If you are married or have a partner you can take turns each night or give each other with quick 3-5 minute massages. If you stretch and allow yourself to relax with a mini massage before bed you will have a much better chance of getting a great night's sleep.

Reading before Bed Time

Read once you’re in bed or before going to bed can help you to get your mind off of other things that can prevent you from relaxing. Realistically it’s good to relax with an interesting book in bed. Many people find that this in itself helps them sleep. The alternative is to read in a different room for a while, perhaps with a relaxing drink, and then continue in bed once you start feeling sleepy. According to research reading before bed helps reduce stress and improves your sleep. This is a great method used by millions of people ever day.

Take a Bath before Bed

Doing something relaxing before bed, such as taking a shower or a warm bath can really help you to get a better night's sleep. The goal of a relaxing bath is to lower the level of stimulation which in turn will allow you to rest better. It can also soothe sore muscles, help stop colds and infections and open congested sinuses. Taking a hot shower before bed lowers your body temperature, making you feel drowsy before bed. Taking a shower every day should be on everyone's agenda, we just recommend you take it at night before bed time.

Wash your face and remove make up

I know - you are probably asking doesn't everyone do this? I'm sure everyone plans to but we feel like it should be said here anyways. It is essential to remove makeup before going to bed as it can cause extensive harm to your skin. The skin renews itself while you sleep, and when you have makeup on, you are preventing that from happening. The skin ceases to breathe, and fatigue signs appear soon. There are great night creams in the Luminesce skin care line that will help your skin rejuvenate even better.

Have a relaxing drink or light snack

It’s a good idea to avoid alcohol and sugary drinks before bed. But taking a relaxing cup of tea is a nice way to spend some quiet time. Be sure it's a type of tea that will help you sleep with ingredients such as Chamomile or Valerian. If you get hungry at night, it’s perfectly fine to have a light snack before bed. Some food is, of course, better than others at night. Avoid any sugary snacks which can work to keep you active rather than helping you relax.

Switch off electronic devices

Not only is the light from electronics harmful for your quality of sleep, but the radio waves are also harmful to our skin and organs. Using technology before bed can increase your amount of stress with the unhealthy light and radio waves. The light some devices emit can interfere with your internal body clock and can be addictive, eating into even more sleep time. We highly recommend you put away your devices when in bed.

All Natural Supplements to help you Sleep

We don't recommend you take sleeping pills or drink alcohol before bed to help you relax. There are all natural supplements that can help you sleep and aid in improving your health at the same time. There are supplements for the day time and night time such as AM & PM Essentials which helps you to combat the aging process. Whatever your strategy it doesn't hurt to get a little aid to help you to sleep easier.
